Default LED for Zoanthids

I went the SPS route in my display tank so not wanting to get rid of my zoanthids I set up a mini reef on my desktop. The tank measure 10" x 8" x 8" with LR up the sides and an open center. My plan is to stick my zoanthid frags on the sides and let them grow from there. Where I am stuck is lighting. Being only 10" long I cant run t5HO which is what I wanted so I am looking at LED.

I have seen a couple fixtures I like, including this Azoo fixture
http://www.marinedepot.com/Azoo_Neo_...FILDFX-vi.html

but I cannot find it locally. I was thinking of doing 1 of these instead

Is the Taam Rio Mini Sun going to be enough light?

Does anyone have one of those Azoo pump they want to sell or have an idea where in Canada I can get one?

i don't think those are useful for supporting coral growth. You really need high power LEDs to produce any useful PAR. I am using six 3 watt Cree LEDs (underdriven at only 350mA to reduce heat) on my 3 gallonish pico and so far the zoas look happy but they have only been in there about a month so I have to see how they will grow.

Have a look at the powerbite's. The 460nm pop the color on zoas like nothing I have ever seen, and they come in 10k and 10k 460nm mix. They are pricey but after seeing the 460nm they are worth the money.

I was looking at those in BA last tme we were in but they are too long. The light can only be 10" long.

Check out evil666's profile on NR, he's the LED guru on there. You might find something interesting.

Thanks Dawn. I have been reading his stuff for a while now. I was just hoping to find a fixture before DIY'ing a light.

I think DIY is the way to go. It's really not hard. The most difficult/time consuming part was drilling and tapping the heatsinks. The rest is fairly simple. My next project is building a 48" LED array for my 75 gallon

Im super impressed with my setup i just did the change over a couple days ago and the system is friggen BRIGHT AS HELL.. id goto nano-reef.com the some sections on DIY LED lighting

Have you thought about just doing PC lighting?

http://www.jlaquatics.com/product/pc...t+Fixture.html

I don't really love the fixture but for the price, you could buy two, take them apart and re-install them in your own little canopy and have 4 PC bulbs in there.

Here's another option: http://www.catalinaaquarium.com/prod...oducts_id=1565
