They probably originated from an Australian hobbyist who collected them legally in 2006. I remember reading about his attempt but I can't find the URL at the moment.

I bet these are offspring from one of the US companies. I think Drs Forester and Smith maybe were breeding a pair of offspring that they got from the Australian pair.

Yup. Some breeder in Australia kept pestering until he was allowed to go collect a few. He bred them first and sold some to Drs. Foster & Smith; they bred them too and were selling them. I believe the majority ended up in Japan. Drs. Foster and Smith are the most likely source for the one in question.

I guess to a collector anything can be golden but I honestly can't understand the appeal. Just looks like a black and white clownfish to me. Man I'm such a cheapskate fuddle-duddle.

Now if I can just find some black paint that'll stick to my Tomato Clown I'll be able to afford a skimmer that actually works!

I don't think I would pay that much money for used fish.

I loved this part...

"Sales Terms Requested by Supplier: Fish cannot be sold to Commerical Breeders or Known Breeding Operations"

Goodness...we wouldn't want that to happen! Captive Breeding might bring the price down.

Doesn't say anything about trading them.
