I bought one once when I was just starting out for my 50gal (bad impulse purchase). I fed Kent phytoplex and microvert a few times per week... the food succeeded only in polluting my tank. The scallop starved to death within a few weeks/months. I dont really recall.

I've also watched our LFS bring a few in recently and house them in a 135gal store display. The ones that didnt sell died of starvation after a few months. As have all of the other non photosynthetic filter feeders they've had that they couldnt sell.

Sorry to be a downer but they began opening very wide like that just before they died too so I'd be concerned if I were you that it is not finding enough to eat.

I've had mine for almost 2 years with no spot feeding.
