Default Nighttime Shenanigans

I certainly pays to look at your tank at night...

This past weekend I witnessed one of our hermit crabs giving birth to hundreds of larvae. It was amazing!

She would pull herself out of her shell and you could see a "sac" attached to her back, from which the larvae emerged. She would quickly pump her body in and out of the shell, forcing the larvae out.

Incredible sight... the tank was swarming with larvae. I don't know how many will survive, as the other inhabitants gorged themselves on fresh crabmeat.

Life in a microcosm.
