Default Hermit Crab Shells

I was wondering where everyone gets spare shells for their hermit crabs? My crabs are growing quickly. I did pick up some from J&L, but they appear to be out growing them again. I found a great online site - but they want a minimum of $50 order - which is like 10 gallons of shells!

I tend to get mine at my lfs. If I'm in and they have some empty shells in the tanks they tend to be more then willing to give them to me. So you can ask your lfs. Also, I was told that you can buy empty shells at some dollar stores, I have not gone that route but it is an option.

I bought a bag of 100 about 6 months ago from a guy on Ebay, the guy was in Ontario somewhere. Worked out to about $15 with shipping.

We get ours at the beach... just look for shells at the high tide line. We usually look right after a storm. Our hermies love the biggest shells, looks so funny when they are wandering around having to push the shell up to see where they are going every few steps. LOL

+1 on the Dollar Store idea. They should have bags of them for.... well a dollar or less. If you're ever in Vernon, check out Welk Mart, a little Mom & Pop everything shop downtown. They have shell assortments at very low prices.
