I think the reason most people use PVC is that ABS is only available down to 1.5", where PVC goes down much smaller. However PVC is more expensive.
If you do go with ABS, look into cell core. It is ABS but cheaper. Keep in mind that ABS is not really pressure rated. So if you're going to be running any kind of pressure through it, I strongly reccomend Shedule 40 PVC or for extreme pressure Schedule 80 PVC. Mike
