Default Calcium/Alk question

I have been hearing a lot of different numbers from people about what the right readings for calcium and Alk should be in a tank. Hope somebody can give me a good opinion and a reason for their numbers as I am getting a little confused.

Thanks for the link, lots of useful info. I guess no work will be getting done at my desk this afternoon, have to turn my monitor so it looks like im actually working

P.S. hopefuly moving back to Edmonton this summer.
