At what level is the humidity to high. I watch my humidity and it is always 45 to 55%. The humidity outside today is 85% and it is raining.

It think it depends on what's normal for your area. Houses on the coast seem better adapted to dealing with humidity (maybe it's more of an "outside ambient" air issue). It's one thing if it's -5 to +5, another thing if it's -10 or lower - the outside walls just gather condensation like nuts at that point.


BTW I thought the envelopes thing was a riot! I could sooo totally see it happening too!

Some rules of thumb to prevent window condensation during the heating season

• Recommended indoor RH: 30 per cent to 50 per cent
• When it is below -10oC outdoors,
  recommended indoor RH: 30 per cent
