buy a tee and reduce it down from 1" to 1/2" to 1/4" and there you have it done one cut and your good to go

Excellent idea.
How do you fit the John Guest fitting into the 1/4" end of the tee, can you just use pvc cement or do you need a 1/4" female taper piece and then a male tapered John Guest fitting?
