Ya, I've watched some of those commercials on utube - brilliant marketing!!
The vitamix is about the same as the blendtec - half of the commercial places use one and the other half use the other eg, Booster Juice is blendtec and Orange Julius is vitamix. In the end I chose this one over the blendtec because the reviews made it sound like the build quality and customer service were a little better.
I just got the 2hp model. They make a 3hp model like the blendtec but I read that you should wear ear protection if you don't have one of those soundproof covers!!! As it was, I was worried about noise but fortunately, it isn't any louder than the 450w Osterizer it replaced.

Me too Ryan. But somehow I started researching it and... here we are (one of those 'I never heard of it before but, after all the marketing, now I can't live without'). There are forums dedicated to 'whole foodists' who suggest blending things like: the pit of the avacado (highest source of fiber in the universe), the core of the pineapple (most of the vitamines are there) and even the green leefy top of the pineapple (tons of 'free radicals' whatever that is). I haven't tried anything crazy like that but when I use apples, I just throw them in whole and it ends up smoooth - no sign of any core or seeds.
I bought it for the health benefits but in all truth, I am still eating just as much chicken wings and pop as I always did . One good thing is how easy it is to give my picky kids the recommended servings of fruit and vegetables - most of the time they don't even know what I gave them. Another point for the parents' team.
I'll drink to that,

- Chad

Haha, I know... had to tell someone though.

I got this one off ebay. I hunted around for a used one for almost a month but the dang things are almost as expensive as when they are new.
(I guess they are high enough quality that they don't depreciate much... could be the 7 year warranty too). I can send you a link to the seller if you are interested.
