The refillable cartridges are like ryland described. They are the same as your regular DI unit they just come apart to add resin. The cartridges will be a one shot purchase. You can use these for carbon as well I have some people using them for aragonite after the DI to buffer the water. I hope this clears up any questions that you may have had.
