Default MH bulb or ballast

I came home today to find my Hamilton 150w HQI system was not on. Upon closer inspection I found the bulb to be on, but only glowing a very dim orange.

The bulb is original, and was setup at about this time last year.

I would like to know if the cause of this is that the bulb is no longer any good or the ballast has crapped out.
Any help would be appreciated.

That's very odd. I don't know if it could be bulb or ballast but I have some old 150W DE's you could borrow, if you wanted, to see if they fire. If they don't fire up OK you know it's ballast, or maybe wiring connectors or loose sockets; if they do fire up OK then you just need a new bulb.

Thank you for your offer Tony, I ended up borrowing a bulb from Bob. It fired right up.
So that answers my question, it was the bulb.

I also had the chance to inspect my old bulb, the glass had become darkened with a purplish haze, and was black inside the filament area.
