Default ASM skimmer mods

What is the point of modifying the asm? I just read the link to ASM skimmer.com explaining how to do the mods, but I think it works fine the way it is.

Well .. you know. There's always the drive to make something that might be "better already" to be "more better."

The Mod's I've heard about are to seal it up in order to create an out-of-sump skimmer.

The recirculating modification is probably worth doing if you're into drilling holes into the skimmer. The theory about making a skimmer a recirc model seems solid to me (increasing contact time can only help but be a GoodThing(tm)).

Sent a e-mail to ASMskimmer last week asking about the mods and if they need to be done together. Reply was the gate valve mod (for level control) and recir can be done independently.
