Default Mantis Shrimp!

A big thanks to Azilla who sent me this guy! . This Mantis is a Peacock Mantis and they are the most common. Mine is about 1.5" long. Now for the pictures.

I will try to get some more later. Also anyone else at the moment have one?

Matt

Thanks again! I have now come up with a name. It is Mr.Creosote. Anyone out there know where this is from? HINT: Think Monty Python.

Nice!
I hope that snail shell in the background is empty, as it belongs to a predatory snail that will desimate your entire sanbed

Question for Azilla, where did you buy your live rock? I have an unidentified click and I'm trying to sort out the odds I have a mantis or not.

I thought the peacock mantis was supposed to be found in sand and not in the live rock.

I am not Azilla but I will ansewer your question. From what I have heard from mine it sounds like clipping toenails. . Peacock Mantis are Smashers and live in live rock. Spearers live in the sandbed so they are harder to come by. Spearers eat fish and other soft things, Smashers eat crabs, snails, and other crustaceans. Oh ya the shell is empty. I also have an empty Textile Cone snail in my tank.
