My blue legged hermit crabs seem to be eating mine. It was a beautiful piece I bought from a fellow canreefer - but each day it is losing more and more of the pulsing thingys. My hermits are all over it so I think they are the culprits.

Isn't xenia sensitive to alkalinity or something? Could that be the problem?

Maybe it just missed you

I know that xenia does not do well if the calcium in the system is too high. Makes it difficult if trying to keep xenia and stoney corals together.

My experience with xenia is that it is sort of like drinking Tequila - a different trip every time. In some tanks it seems to thrive like a week and in others it just shrivels up and dies. I have never bothered to take the time to figure out why that is but it could have to do with the lighting and/or temperature. I know that I had it in one tank and everytime I would try to move some to another tank it would just perish. I was using the same salt and the (virtually) same lighting. Go figure.

-well all u can do is keep up with regular water maintenance, if he still dies
it's just probably the coral..

we had a frag of xenia that died. It was attached to a piece of rubble and then latched onto another rock. The rubble got knocked over by our urchin and the xenia was torn. Didnt last long after that.
