For me the elastic just blended in for me so I just left it. It seems as though the saltwater eats away at them or something chews them up over a month or so as I am finding broken ones rather often in my cube. I have an eggcrate frag rack that's built with elastics that I will need to rebuild soon as their all snapping or breaking down.
