help! coral dying fast...

Hey guys, i just bought a new coral 2 days ago and it seemed to be doing well for the first two but then slowly started to turn white and loose the little blue "furry looking bulbs" it has on the branches in the last 12 hours. Appears to be spreading fast. Im unsure of the name of this coral but here are some pictures.

I did have it close to a powerhead which i now moved thinking it was possibly to much waterflow.

Should i move it lower in the tank, could it be possible it is being blasted with too much light? lights are on for 4 or 5 hours a day.

Should i break off the affected branch?

Any other tips would be great... thanks.

break off the affected parts including a little bit of good tissue. I lost a good size birdnest colony in overnight before I decide to break off the affected branches.

I agree, just break off the affected parts. Its not getting blasted by a powerhead is it? Just wondering, I can't tell from the photos.

+1 on the above. Get rid of the affected branch and a bit of the clean tissue. Leave it in a moderate flow area to prevent algae growth on the bare patch. Birdsnest colonies have a tendency to go off like a lit match once they start receding like that. Just like apexifd, I lost a canteloupe sized colony in a matter of days because I neglected to trim off the dying branches.

But don't worry, it grows back fast. I kept a 1" branch (more like a stick) of the original colony and it's now a 6-7" bush in only 5 months. Moderate to high flow, lots of light and you're good to go.

christyf5 - it wasnt taking the full force of the powerhead, but it was right next to it. Then again its only a Hydor #1 powerhead.

I just broke the branch off as close as i could to the base, i somehow managed to pull it off the rock it was glued too (god dammit). I have it stuffed slightly lower into a hole in a larger rock getting medium water flow.
