The difference between Gen 1 and 2 is more than just the TIR lens.

I believe they have also implemented a better fan, which may be in place with the newer G1's as well.

I have both G1's and G2's in different tanks, and can tell you the G2's are much better for SPS. For some reason, SPS colors up much better with the G2's. I now use the G1's only for softies and LPS, and they are fine for that.
