Help IDing a Crab
Hey guys, I just saw this guy trying to bury himself in my sand under one of my rock. Can anybody ID this thing? It looks like it'd eat a small fish and my tank's only a 10G soooo does anybody want him? Let me know if you guys got any idea what he is or if you have a nice home for him. Thanks

I think its a Carpilius sp. Closest I could find was C. corallinus. I had a C. convexus in my tank last year, it must have hitchhiked on a rock and by the time I noticed it and got it out it was a good 3-3.5 inches across. Very creepy.

Hey thanks for the ID, thats the same one I've seen in my tank after the lights are out. About 2" across. I think he's going to have to go.

I found one just like that in a piece of new live rock. I pu it in my tank and found my short spined urchin had some of its 'quills' cut off the next day. I hunted that crab down and gave it away.

Set a trap for him. If he's the only thing in there right now it should be pretty easy to get him. Try a clean glass jar propped up against the rock with some bait in it like an algae wafer. Leave it for a night or two and you should have him. I have used this method before and it works good, once he goes in there the glass is to slippery for him to crawl out.
