Just wondering if the mag float cleaner can be left in my reef tank permanently?

I left my magnet in my tank permanently; however, it did get quite the buildup of coralline on it before my tank died. I had to keep a close eye on it to ensure there was nothing building up between the magnet and glass.

Mine is a great haven for copepods, they like to hang out in the velcro bits.
