Default What you didn't see on TV

Hi Everyone, I thought I'd share yesterdays adventure with you. These pictures really don't do the destruction justice, but I can't figure out how to load videos here.
For those of you not familiar with Calgary, the pictures below are of a large provincial park inside of our city limits. Here is a shot of one of the few remaining pathways leading up to a bridge.

Further ahead we discovered that the bridge was washed away! I guess you can see why.

Apparently the reason for this madness was a dam near the source of Fish creek (Priddis Alberta) that actually broke or at least breached on Friday Pm/Saturday Am. What you are looking at, is where one of many resident beavers used to live. Note the massive erosion.

Another bridge that just escaped destruction.

As kids we used to wade up and down this part of little Fish Creek looking for frogs and snakes.

I was ay Mckenzie meadows Golfclub tonite and I was talking to the guy a the proshop and at its worst 16 of the 18 holes were underwater., About 1/2 are still underwater and they have been pumping 24 hours a day since the weekend the Bow broke through a turn and basically went straight onto the golf course and started to make a new route.. sandbagged the river..

They do not know the extent of the damage yet I am sure its not going to good.

There's been very little media coverage about the damage to Fish Creek. I am so very saddened to see this happened to my beloved park, it's the whole reason I live down here. It will recover of course, but it will take so long, and never really be quite the same.

To tell you the truth Tony, I kind of like the wildness of the way the park looks now. Before the flood you may have noticed a lot of trees that the park officials were cutting down, probably for safety issues etc. Now the stumps and trunks are well hidden. Sure they will need to rebuild the pathways and bridges, but the park is so green and lush. Once the work is completed and the animals return home it will be better than ever.
