Is there really a different between chpeaper salt and more expensive one? For saving money, can we mix the different salt to make water for my tank? Which salt are you guys using? Thanks! |

You should search the forums here on salt polls. That will tell you a lot.

I personally believe that buying the cheapest salt just makes my job harder so I try to buy quality. That's only my opinion though and there are many people on here running un-believable tanks on the cheapest salts around that may disprove my opinion completely.

A good quality salt will save you money on suppliments; which aren't really required if you use good salt IMO.

havn't seen any salt that didn't usually need some form of suppliments.. Granted, I havn't used it all, by no means. Also, think of cost. How much does it really cost to suppliment? I think it's under $15 for me and a bucket of IO. so, $40 for salt, then $15 for suppliments. $55. Still better than $80+ for some salt's.\

I musty add tho, it also really depends on what you keep. A FOWLR, with maybe some softies, you shouldnt need to dose anything at all. But full with SPS, it's a whole different ballgame.

I figure it costs me around $10 in supplements per pail of IO salt. I make my own 2 part formula using littlesilvermax's chems. Since I go through about a pail a month of salt I wouldn't be able to afford $80+ buckets. My tank is SPS dominated and I am getting good growth from most of my corals.
