Default Fish reference book

Is "Marine Fishes: 500+ Essential-To-Know Aquarium Species" still the most recommended fish reference book? Any other new recommendations?

I'd say that Marine Fishes is likely your best bet for research and handy to have on trips to the LFS when you're tempted by a fish you don't know about. Most other books, I've found, have references to a lot of fish that either you can't get or should stay in the ocean (cuz they get huge).

Then again if you're looking for a "coffee table" type book, a neat read etc. Scott Michaels "Reef Fishes" is good. I think theres 3 volumes.

The pocket 500 is definitely the best bang for your buck for condensed, concise info though.

Here's a couple that we have:

1. The new encyclopedia of saltwater aquaruim - Greg Jennings
2. What fish? A buyers guide to marine fish - Tristan Lougher
3. The Conscientious Marine Aquarist - Robert M Fenner

#2 is small and good to take to LFS.

#1 and #3 have other references as well as fish.

hmmm I don't have Marine fishes.....ok off to the chapters site!
