Default Leach29 2012 Nano Contest Entry

Hi everyone, I am going to be working on this with my wife Lindsay for this project, we are expecting our first child this is going to be in the nursery, call it the baby tank.

We have bought a 14 gallon biocube thinking we will be keeping it very simple, mixed reef, with some upgrades in areas that may need it after a little more research.

Thanks for following along should be fun!

Lindsay and Jeff

Nice! Instead of one of those cheesy, noise making, fake, wind up, aquariums things, you're little babe is going to have the real thing.

Are you going to try to make it a little noisy? Something that most new parents purchase (or are given) is a "white noise machine." It is supposed to help babies sleep. In this case, a pump or skimmer that is a little noisy might be a good thing.

That is a gret point about the noise, I don't think we will try to make it any noisier it has quiet a nice water flow sound right now.

Default Upgrades

Here are the things that I have decided to upgrade to start with!

The Hydor Water Circulator fits on to the existing pump, giving the tank more circulation. Still might add another power head but going to see how this works out for me first.

Added a Coralife 50/50 dual bulb, and a Coralife Actinic dual bulb. I went with this combo because I like the lighting a little more blue. Looks great and just what I was going for.

Went with the Maxi Jet 900 return pump as per a bunch of suggestions with this type of system, creating a lot more flow and works magic with the Hydor Circulator.

As for the Biocube skimmer I have heard very mixed reviews for this type of skimmer but I am goint to see how it works out to start with and go from there.

Default LED's for Fuge

I picked these LED's up. They put off around 8 watts total and going to mount them to the back of the tank to give the Chaeto Algae enough light to grow nicely.
