Default Setting up Controller. Chiller Question.

The manual for my chiller indicates that it requires a "dedicated" outlet. It is a 1/5 hp Arctica.

Should it be okay to plug into the controller's power bar? I do not want to purchase a second bar just for the chiller.

Cool

If I remeber my electrial classes 1/5hp is about 150watts. Your fine plugging it in your power bar.

make sure you use a relay outlet on the power bar

Thanks!

Should the heater be plugged into a relay outlet, too? That is going on and off like crazy.

Yes the heater and all hi current devices should be on relay outlets.
I'm not familliar with profilux but if the heater is toggling on and off it is usually because there is no hysteresis or differencial for the temp set point. I have a RKE and I set my heater as a controller, I set the temp to 78 and the histeresis (differencial) at .1, that way the heater turns on at 77.9 and off at 78, if there is no hysteresis then the controller gets to a point where it is trying to turn the heater on at the same time it is turning it off so it keeps toggling on and off.

Also, there should be a tag on the chiller that tells you the full load amps.

Thanks! I've got the Neptune Apex.

The label on the chiller is in an awkward place (where I have the chiller installed, anyway). According to the website it is 5 amps.

I am so glad that you explained "Histerersis" for me. I saw the word, couldn't figure out what it meant from the context, and then meant to look it up but forgot. I will fix that.

Edit: I must have read "histerersis" in relation to something else, as that isn't a field under the heater control. I've only got min/max settings.

Most powerbars have 8 amp relays so you will be good, just remember that you can't exceed 13 amps on a powerbar or you will start to overload the houses circuit.
A dedicated outlet is 15 amp. but you should only load a circuit to 85% of its rated capacity, 13 amps.

Cool.

The two relay outlets are 10 amps. The others are 5. The total amperage use (according to the display) is <3 amps when everything but the chiller is on. I should be good.
