I don't see how either of those fish could physically break eggcrate. At all. Unless what you are using is not the egg crate I own... As what I call eggcrate I struggled to cut with side cutters...

I can remove my pump, as most others can, without taking my skimmer out of the tank.

That to me would cause me to lose my mind....

I only buy fish after they have been in the store at least 24hrs.
