I wouldn't be putting a glass lid on a 15g tank with this fixture unless you have it mounted up very high (but that defeats the purpose of getting higher watt MH's). You will have very high temps.

You can just tape on a black vinyl (same stuff as the back drop material you buy in pet stores) back drop to the rear pane of glass. It's easier than masking, painting and scraping.

Certain gobies will pair up with shrimp. I have even seen them sold as pairs around town at LFS. You can also get a JBJ 28g LED set up that won't heat up the tank like a MH.
