Try wrapping the tank using duct tap and heavy plastic or a tarp/blanket then break it. This should help contain the debris and make it a little safer.

I have a monti cap that is slowly being overgrown with zoos, as well they are spreading onto other sps. It wouldn't be so bad but they are a ugly brown, not much to look at IMO.
