painting external overflow

ive notched out a overflow in the back of my tank.is there any way that i can paint the outside of the back panel withou the silicone frome the external box showing through.is there a paint i can use...

sorry i forgot to sya that this toadstool was a frag from another reefer on this board and i believe that it was only a week old when i got it making it roughly 3-4 weeks old.
