Ok.. I got a mantis today.. He's about 4-5 inches and is bright green with a bit of red.. I have an established 10gallon set up for him that I used to use for curing rock..

I ordered a workhorse 7 earlier today.. I will experiment with it a bit.. sounds like a pretty versitile ballast.. I'll compare it with my 430..

It's $70 for me though.. what the hell? I guess...

All welds had at least 24 hours accept for one at the top of the riser tube.. it only had a couple hours before I ran it with water again.. anxious!

I used the weld on stuff in addition to methol hydrate (is that right?). And I siliconed the crucial areas..

raising the water level at the point I took that photo would have just shot the foam to...

Well I have the skimmer working pretty well now. Next time I do it, the intake will be offset.....

I looked at the general specs on the precision marine page when I made my skimmer.. Not that I disagree (I know next to nothing on building skimmers), but if the precision marine airstone model...

I went for a 400w iwasaki on my 50gal and it was only about $20-$30 more then 250..

In the Aquarium and reef 2002 magazine there's a good article on the halide bulbs that conpares both iwasakis
