The THK holesaws from Hong Kong (on Ebay) will get you about 4-5 holes on 3/8" glass. Considering they cost under $15 and shipping is free, at $3 a hole they are well worth the price.

About 6 years ago I had a group of anthias. They were beautiful and the male was spectacular. One day the male disappeared and I was confused because he wasn't in the sump, on the floor, anywhere....

More precisely, you need to choose buffer solutions that bracket your target pH. Salt water is ~ pH 8.2 so you'd choose pH 7 and pH 10 as your buffers. Your calcium reactor has ~ pH 6.5 I think and...

Unfortunately, I think the tank would be FOWR (fish only with rock) because the copper will not let anything really live on it to keep it "live".

To put things into perspective, you will likely buy a number of coral pieces at say, $40 a piece, and you will likely lose a few of them over the course of a year; maybe some fishes. This loss is...

Your live rock is dead but that's not the problem. The problem is copper is adsorbed on calcareous substrates and is slowly released back into the water column. Fishes will be fine in the tank but...

Which ever way you choose, you want to limit the nutrient level in the tank. This will mean constantly cleaning the rock and removing as much algae and organic material as possible.

If it were me,...

It's actually really low. It's in the exact centre on the back panel (48x21) and it's under the overflow box. I'm not even sure they are bubbles. They could even by tiny little bits of dust from the...

Everything is fine, thanks for asking. The E. yaeyamaensis (frogspawn?) is getting bleached but that's because it's right under the MH. I know that has nothing to do with the temperature but I felt...

Almost killed my anemone

I got the baffles installed and I put the sump back in place, ready to fill it next morning when the silicone was cured. I also rerouted one of my drains so they all dump into the skimmer...

Thanks for the replies.

I won't be using a refugium. This tank is small so I'm not getting too deep into the build until I get a larger tank. This one is just for practice. I've been out of the...

Sump: over/under/over? or the other way?

I only have 3 pieces of glass for baffles for a bubble trap. I've added 2 and now I don't know where to put the last one. Am I supposed to have over/under/over like I've been reading or is it...

NP. They go to a 10 gallon quarantine. It didn't take long for them to go from swimmy to slimy, spotty and dead. Very sad. From now on, I'll only buy fishes that were in the dealer's tank for at...

Thanks. I did find it. Apparently, from what I was told, when it comes to Canada, due to regulations, it has to carry a specific label. This label is expensive and has to be on every product, so...

He has 3 because he's planning a Beananimal, and he has more than enough room to do it. I wouldn't sacrifice the extra security if I didn't have to, even if I thought it was redundant.

To be fair, the overflow system made sense and I couldn't find any fault in it. Plus, once it was set up I had hard proof it worked, even though I didn't set it up exactly as I should. If someone...

If you put a sponge below the rim of the OF you won't be disrupting the flow into it. That should keep anemones out and allow surface film to go in.
People tend to pick at minor details - I'm not...

That's something to consider for next time. I don't trust CLs and prefer propeller pumps with the included mesh right now. But it's not like the flow through my sump is that great anyway, maybe 2-3x...
