Feed freshwater foods to freshwater fish, marine-based foods to marine fish. There are some exceptions to the rule and sometimes a "snack" of blood worms or something...

It is unlikely that a dead fish would have caused a nitrate spike so soon after death (ammonia or nitrite spike is more likely). High nitrates probably only would have resulted had you left the fish...

Thats interesting to hear that your sun coral eats pellets... when I had mine I would throw the occasional pellet on it, the mouth would eat it, and then proceed to spit it out no less than 10...
