I had an out break of Cyno (red slime algae)and did a black out for 20 hours a day and this cleard it up in about a week. i could do this as i have no coral that is too light dependant.
Most cases I have experienced with red slime out side of new tank syndrome is due to protien build up. I my self had a bought hit me in my clam nano. Changed my crappy skimmer over to less crappy skimmer and gone.
Once you run your skimmer for a while do a 1/4 dose of Eurithromyacin (EM powder is the best)
