Default water noise from overflow

I have a mag 9.5 running with the ball valve open at half and drain line about the same, but when i open the valve wide from the pump. I can't get the drain line to keep up meaning I am getting the "water noise" from this line there are two elbows and a straight piece going back to the sump would this be the problem ? any ideas ?

What size is your supply line and drain pipe? FYI, my mag 18 can't run full throttle either in my 65gal, too much flow for my 1.5 inch drain pipe back to the sump.

When you mean the drain can't keep up, do you mean the overflow/drain can't keep up? Or just the gurgling noise? The gurgling noise can be quieted with a piece of airline tubing stuck down the drain to remove air.

If you are overdoing the drain line, (as in overflowing) you have no choice but to throttle back the pump or add more/larger drain lines.

the Drain will keep up, just the gurgling noise is heard when I open it up full.
the pump line is 3/4 inch and the drain line is 1 inch.

What kind of an overflow do you have setup? Are you using a Durso standpipe or similar?
