Default Height of Light VS Depth of Tank

Just wondering how high everyones lights are from the surface of the water, and the depth of their tanks.

I am currently running a 40 breeder with a tek 4 bulb fixture. The tank is about 17 inches deep and the light is currently about 8 inches off the waters surface. I just increased the height of the light to 8 inches from 6 inches about two weeks ago. I've been finding that all my corals are bleaching, even some of my birdnest corals. Most corals sit in water 3 to 12 inches deep. Hoping the increase of two inches will make a difference.
