Default Thermometers

What are people using for thermometers? Is there anything I can buy from a hardware type store that will be reliable and not contaminate my tank with any metals? And should people be using the old-fashioned thermometers with liquid inside as a check on the accuracy of their digital thermometers?

I use a digital aquarium thermometer from the hydroponics shop. Works well, it's accurate and full time monitoring. Checking against a known good is always a good idea.

Precision Indoor/Outdoor thermometer. $20 at Radio Shack. Been using them for many years now.
