Reefer Rock is typically slightly more dense then typical Fiji Rock (some pieces more some pieces less) - Fiji is full of macro/micro pores while Reefer Rock is full of holes and crevices from 1mm to 1inch in size. I would say on average that a 3lb piece of Fiji would equate to a 3.5lb piece of equal sized Reefer Rock.

Just as a quick sample see the following.

Is this rock mined in Canada?

No, it is mined from a quarry in the US (far south). There is natural calcium carbonate rock available in Canada but due to its geological age its way too dense to be used as a reef suitable rock. The Reefer Rock is from an ancient coral reef estimated to be around 100,000 years old. Just for reference whats in Canada is millions of years old and therefore more compressed, more dense.

Just got my first shipment of Reefer Rocks today and they are AMAZING!!! I don't think the postal worker was too happy with having to lift a 50lb box to my door first thing Monday morning. He was pretty grumpy... Anyway, I can't believe how porious the rocks are and the fact that they smell like condensed milk is a nice change from the foul stench of live rocks. Thanks Torsten for hand selecting the rocks! I'll be ordering another box asap and will post some pics of my rocks shortly.

You should see the looks I get when I have to drop shipments off at the post office. The one girl tends to go on break now when I walk through the door, I wonder why

All kidding aside, I'm glad you like the rock RIPTANK. I can't wait to see pictures of your system (and all the others who bought rock) when its up and running.
