Philips DVP5990 is one option. They can be found either region locked or region free. The region locked ones go for about $55 and up at NCIX, Best Buy, etc and you should be able to hack it yourself to be region-free (I can't guarantee it though). The DVP5990 can also play DIVX avi's. It can also play videos from a USB stick/drive.

I find that my cheap Malata DVD player that I got at Wal-Mart for $20 plays everything, the expensive $500 sony suround sound wont play any of the disks from Thailand or China.

Well after trying a couple of " economical " dvd players from a couple of stores and trying to convert my Samsung Blu-ray, I ordered the Phillips 5990 online re the Best Buy boxing day sale for the low price of $49. It arrived today and within 60 seconds of hooking up I was able to convert it! Sam thanks a million for the info and link. Sam you are the man!
