Intro

Hey everyone,
Just wanted to say I and introduce myself. My name is Minh and I've lived in Winnipeg for most of my 25 years. Started a 65G fish only in the end of November 2004. It's been running for about 3 months with only a Aquaclear 1200 and a Prizim Deluxe protein skimmer, and 660 powerhead. Now I'm hooked on the hobby and I've poured a bunch of money into. I just recently bought 250W power compacts, 20G wet/dry with 800GPH pump, UV sterilizer, refractometer, pH pen, another external protein skimmer, and started a 50G quarantine tank. I also ordered 60lbs of fiji live rock that should ship next week.

Currently my stocks are:
2 false perculas
1 electric blue damsel
1 yellow tail damsel
1 clown trigger
1 huma huma trigger
1 yellow tang
3 scarlet hermits
1 metallic blue hermit
4 blue leg hermits
1 snail ( had 12 but my trigger ate them )

... and I'm thinking of getting a hippo/regal tang. I think I'm want to stick to FOWLR, but I really want a BTA for my clowns. Unfortunately I've heard my clown trigger will eat the BTA.

Anyone have experience with keeping triggerfish with BTA's?

Thats a pretty large load for a 65g. Or at least it will be when they all reach adult size. Those are a pair of pretty large triggers that usually prefer much larger tanks.

I,m not sure if triggers eat anenomes, but I would not put an anenome in a tank thats still a FOWLR. They are a bit harder to keep and require established reef aquariums. Like I said above, without the triggers that may be an idea, once the tanks more established.

Also once the fish get larger and the wet/dry is running, the nitates will increase. These will need to be removed by water changes or lots of algae filtration. This will also be hard on creatures like anenomes.

Usually if one has enough live rock or sandbed, other means of bio filtration are not needed. However its likely thats if your tank remains the same and with 60#,s of rock, the wet/dry will indeed help with the current bio load.

I,m sure more will jump in with ideas and comments and there is a lot of threads to read on here. But as I said above, welcome to our aquarium community.

Once the LR comes in I'll be getting lots of macro algae to help with the nitrates.

When the triggers grow up, I will hopefully have a larger tank by then. if not, i will trade them in to my LFS so they can eventually have a better home. Most likely I'll have the bigger tank though

I'll probably do a 30G NanoTank + 10G sump and move the clowns to that tank.

Sounds like your heading in the right direction and have a good grip on what your doing. The upgrade tank sound like a dandy.

Definately. I'll be posting it for $140 tank w/ stand + crown once I have the 180G setup. If you want it, you can have first dibs before I post it on WSFF. The supplies and paint for the stand alone was $115
