Default Salifert alk test kit

I have had my test kit for a while now over a year because I was in the planning stages of my new set up .I was wondering do these kits expire.
The reason I ask is when I do the test I get a reading of about 12DkH
but when I go to get it tested It comes back at off the scale ,when I use my even older aquarium pharm test kit it measures 16DkH.

I would think it is fine after a year.

date on it. It expires aug 2008,so yours should be good.

Bud

Bring some water in on the weekend and I'll test it again for you if you want.

I've seen test kits that were so far out of whack it's spooky. A buddy of mine who lives just down the street gave me some fish one day, he phoned me to ask me if I wanted them so I said sure. I asked what his pH and GH were, set the water and went and got the fish, when I got them home on a whim I tested his water, he said his water was 7.5pH my test kit showed his water well below 6. I ran down the the LFS and got another test kit and the new one pretty much matched his, but not exactly, I'd still say with in .5pH. Did mine expire or was it just faulty, I don't know but I do know that even two brand new kits can give you varying readings. It would sure be nice to have the $$ to go completly digital wouldn't it.

The time you got home with your bag full of fish it is normal for the PH to go down cause a lot of CO2 is realese buy the fish ans it will lower PH inside the bag

????? We're talking 2-3 minutes.. if the CO2 built up that fast no fish would survive shipping... geeze
