Default 120 Gal Build - Pictures Added

Finally!! I am finally going to upgrade my 33gal mixed to a 120gal mixed. Picked up a 120gal (48"x24"x24") reef ready tank of Kijiji today with a stand. Looks unused, & no scratches I could see.

My plan so far is to drill a couple returns in the back glass, & paint it.

Equipment planed &/or ordered:

Lighting 2-Radion LED lights. Look good & a better deal than the AI SOL's
Skimmer, my Vertex In-100 for now, will be awhile before there will be much stock in it anyway.

Dual 300W heaters (for safety)

80lbs of Caribseas base rock

around 40lbs of live rock from my existing system

1 MP-40 to start with, probably add another one later if needed.

I need to figure out how big of sump will fit inthe stand & build that. Other than that things from my existing sytem will move over.

Future plans is a dosing pump of some sort, probably a proflix

A controller, most likely an Apex for budget reasons. With the radions, a profilx controller is probably over kill.

Right now I don't have much stocking plans. I do want a yellow tang, or a powder blue. Other than that it will be taking time & see how the SPS grows.

Watch for pictures to come.

Excellent choice and thinking on the lights as 2 Radions are perfect for a 120g

Got the tank drilled for 2 returns on the back wall. Also got the back painted this evening, looking good. So for except for plumbing the tank is ready after a water test. Sump is another matter. Was in the middle of installing the baffles & while on the last one it fell over, taking the other 2 out. Silicone everywhere. Lots of cleaning tomorrow & then starting over again

lol that sucks sorry to hear it! try turning the tank tall ways, then using something to hold glass in place, do one baffle at a time, after a few hours you can move to the next one. might help?

Got the sump cleaned and finished. Canopy built & ready for sanding and stain. Still have to confirm the radions size so I can cut the holes out for them. Need to find some help to move the tank so I can modify the stand to give a little more room in it for equipment. Getting closer to a water test now.

sounding good so far.....

Radions are 7 and 1/8" wide and 11 and 7/8" long.....that is the dimension of the top of the unit, it tapers down slightly from there to the bottom.....I cut my hole 6 and 5/8" x 11 and 1/2"....just to give the unit plenty meat to rest on

Thanks... I did check out the measurements at the Reef Shoppe before building the canopy. The way I did it if I am wrong it is easy to change, but it should be a near perfect fit.

Once I get it upstairs plumbing & in place I will take some more pics...

looks like I missed an update here, lol.

Anyway, got the canopy built & painted. Added 3 2" holes to the back of the canopy for ventilation. Will watch the temps, but with the LED's there shouldn't be that much heat gain.

I also modified the stand to give me a little more height & added a base for the sump.

Tonight I water tested the sump & function of the baffles, things are working the way they should. I also put about 17" of water in the tank for a water test & will be leaving that till tomorrow evening to double check for leaks & make sure nothing breaks.

The plan is to move it from the garage to its location this weekend & get everything plumbed & ready to fill. I want to aquascape the dry rock before filling it up. its looking good to be running in another week or 2.

Got the tank upstairs today & mostly plumbed. Just short one bulkhead & a piece for the loc line. Going to maybe try & get the aquascaping started tomorrow.

The lights are on backorder anyway, so waiting for the peices is not a big deal. Luckily I had room in the house just to slide the 33gal over & have room for the new tank.

The only thing that sucks is the smell from the PVC cement... LOL

I'll try & get something set-up for pictures tomorrow
