Snorkelling at Hanauma Bay
I ended up going to Honolulu instead of Maui because it was about half the price. I snorkelled at Hanauma Bay and it was incredible. It was my first time snorkelling and I don't know how to swim so I think it went well. I started at 7am and ended at 8:30 because I had to catch a bus to the Polynesian Cultural Center. I also ran out of film within minutes. I used a disposable camera. There was so many fish that I didn't realized that I used up all the film so fast. The pics taken near the early morning came out fuzzy. In the future, I'd like to get a disposable camera with a flash so I can get more colors underwater.
Oh yeah, and there were whales at the Bay. It was neat. Last edited by Samw; 12-29-2005 at 06:02 AM. |

That looks incredible! Reminds me of when I went snorkeling in Cancun.

Nice pics Sam. I really enjoyed it when there. Bought one of those food tubes for the fish and had it stuck in my trunks. Had so many fish trying to get in there it was crazy.
They said it was over run with tourists but always found it great in the morning.

I was there 10 years ago, so many fish, so little time. I was there for about 6 hours, and in the water for about 5 1/2 of them. Since then, I've learned to scuba dive and am dying to get back there. I'd heard something about them closing it to tourists, but I see that's not the case.

Thanks all. Yeah, it gets very crowded during the day. I was lucky to have arrived before 7am. By the time it was 9am, there was a very very long lineup of people waiting to get in. I'd hate to see it close down if there was talk about it. I'd rather see them raise the admission to cut down on the number of visitors.

I was there last summer and it is pretty awesome. I saw all the fish you took pics of, but out of a whole day snorkeling, I only saw ONE yellow tang. I also snorkeled in many other parts in Kauai and Oahu but didn't see any others. Weird since they are endemic to Hawaii
