Don't you run bioPellets on this tank?

Yup. But I feed a lot and if I don't do a 10% water change every 2nd week the nitrates would start to climb. Not sure what happened here but I'm going to try reducing water changes to monthly and see how it goes.

It could be that because the denitrifying bacteria only replicates once every 5-10 hours that it takes a few weeks for them to catch up to your demand, but now that it's there it should be okay.

Noticed this morning the skimmer wasn't performing properly. Usually a sign of a dirty Beckett. Pulled the Beckett apart and found a snail lodged inside. Is there anywhere snails cannot get into?

Lance that Beckett should be cleaning good on that tank. May be looking at having the skim mate more wet. to pull the crap out.

Mike, I love my Beckett's! No issue there. I skim pretty wet. I empty a liter of dark greenish-brown skimmate from the waste collector every other day.

Five minutes ago while watching TV I heard a splash and a thump. Found Sydney the Tuskfish, laying on the floor behind the stand. Scooped him up and plopped him back in the tank. Other than being covered in dust he looks ok. Stupid fish!
That's the second jumper in less than 4 months. I cover the tank with egg crate during the night. I guess I'll have to cover it during the day as well.
