Why do we refer to a "pair" of pants when there is only one?

I believe its because pants use to actually be 2 garments that were then belted together at the waist....

Ok, here's a tricksy one for you.

Why are Panties plural but bra singular... doesn't make sense.

Haha,... scary, but I was thinking the same thing...

But yes, we can have a pair of glasses, pants, shoes, gloves, socks, so why not some others....

My son is in grade two and I'm teaching my son English language arts these days. For the reasons above It is ridiculously agrivating LOL.
