oh Ive never noticed that on mine. theyre all in awkward areas. Its likely a colonial tunicate then, a harmless filter feeder

nope, theyre sessile so theyll stay where they are. parts may eventually break off and float to a new location where a new colony may start. It could very well be a sponge but theyre really dense and slimy so I dunno. I should see it I can find it in my calfo inverts book.

LOL it is kind of like the blob. The first time I saw one I thought it was one of those large flatworms but it never moved. It kind of reminds me of a really tough skinned wet mushroom in texture when you touch it.
