Default Martin's New 230g

Hi guys, I got out of the hobby when I moved house 5 years ago. I sold the tank, stand a lights but kept the rest.

Decided now was the time to get back in. All I have is the tank and 1/2 a stand so far.

Tank: 30" x 24" x 6'. I actually thought I was getting the same tank I had before but this one turned out to be a foot longer... bonus.

Its drilled for bean animal, and this time I offset the overflow so I can actually get my arm into it. So difficult when its in the middle of the tank.

Tank was from Dave at Concept Aquariums (thanks!). So far its sitting in my living room upstairs while i con enough people into helping me slide it down the stairs into the basement.

I also decided I was done with siphoning for water changes so I had a hold drilled 1/3 the way down the back for draining the water out.

The stand I am building just based on some videos I found on you tube about how to build them.

That's about it for now. I think I have forgotten everything in 5 years including how to do a cycle.

Tank stand will be covered in barn wood eventually.

Well I cant believe it took me this long but a year later its finally running.

Most of my rock was dry Marco rocks so they still have that dry look.

Ive setup this kind of 2 island design at the minute. Although i want to change it when I get more rock and things more established.

Bean Animal Overflow. Its so quiet

Skimmer is a Reef Octopus that I had from my previous tank.

Things are a mess.

Got a fuge running kinda.

Mixing station setup behind the tank. Bottom like is water out to drain and top line is water into the tank. I had a bulk head added to the tank 1/3 way down from the top for water changes. Im currently doing them every 2 weeks but I think the volume is too much so I might change that.

Cant believe how expensive everything is now since im 5 years out of the hobby.

I still dont have any siding on the tank stand and I think I need a much bigger sump.

Tank is on its way, looking good.
Looks like a very solid stand. Keep up the good work.

If you elevate the mixing station it looks like you have quite a lot of room for a larger sump. I'm digging this set up!

Decided to take some new pics. Things are settling in nicely. The ugly phase was ugly. It seems harder now using all dry rock to get the thing established. Pretty stable now at around 8 months I think and things are growing. I added a Kalkwasser Reactor. Hard to keep up with Alk im currently dosing 2L per day just to maintain.

Still have not covered the stand. Not quite sure what to do. Any suggestions? Seen a Purple Tang today in Calgary for $450 cant believe the prices. If anyone in Red Deer has frags let me know!!
