Default Tax pain. What tax filing program do you use?

It's that time of the year... tax filing season.

What tax filing software programs do you like?

I have a bunch of slips for dividends income, capital gains, RRSP contribution. Thanks for your thoughts.

I take my taxes to an accountant. I used to do my own taxes just manually with the forms. Then I got audited in 2006 and 2007. When you use an accountant for personal taxes you're much less likely to get audited.

Solutions are easy. The real difficulty lies in discovering the problem.

Oh forgot to mention, I used to use Cute Tax. My accountant charges $140 I think.

Thanks everyone. Good feedback.

I've used H&R Block the last few years. Just tired of them taking a chunk of my returns. Mine's one of the more expensive return filings with them, due to investments, they're charging me well into the $200's. They also charge me on a per-slip basis and the charge is sometimes as much as the dividends paid for that slip. I've been lazy and not cared as my refund (due to RRSP contributions) was far greater than the service fee, but just getting tired of losing a chunk just for them plugging the slips into their program and efiling for me.

Your feedback got me thinking--either shop around for another local accountant or just get some software. Will check out everyone's mentioned programs.

Thanks.

Studio Tax has a built-in Wizard that guides you through the necessary steps, asks you what slips you have and you just plunk in the numbers
It'll even ask you before you submit, did you remember do 'this or that' ?

Why pay someone else to file your T slips ?

You may be getting money back if you do it yourself, instead of paying for a useless service

It's easy .... just do it
