I can accommodate that with the overflow glass. Have you heard of this? Think it will be fine?

I suppose you could do that as the ends of your box will be the fill in pieces. But if you do your box will only be 2 inches deep. Not sure how well it would drain without making a lot of noise.
Cutting little strips of glass to fill in the ends would be nearly impossible. And you would be asking too much of the silicone.
