My anemone crab used to do that ! Does he still have his anemone/shell? You should get a pic in the symbiotic thread.
My anemone crab died during a molt, he had some difficulties for some reason. I tried to keep his anemone alive, but no go without the host...

I have noticed when I have bought large shells for them, I’ve seen them switch and also remove the old anemone and put it on their new shells. It’s very cool. They did fight a lot with each other – and went CRAZY running around only the bottom of the tank, so rare would I see them up on the rocks. I only have one left he seems much happy that he is alone, quite large too. I’ve had this guy now for over a year. (I started with four)
