Default Painting back panel of tank

I am going to paint the back of my new tank black using krylon paint. Do I need to use the Krylon primer first, and was also wondering what do most use, gloss or flat black? Also, should I drill the back panel for my returns lines or just run them over the top.

If you paint the outside back of the tank with primer first then black, what color do you think you will get showing through.......primer. Just clean the back glass really good with vinager & a razor blade to make sure there is nothing on the glass & paint gloss black. If you have the ability to drill the tank I would, makes thing nice & clean.

Cheaper then a $7 can of Krylon that can do a 8' x 2' piece of glass?
